Just came across a discussion in office today, thought would share it with you all.
A friend of mine gave me article to read.
http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1705518,00.html
Its about Israel seriously adopting electric car, in a process to become a oil free country.
The article itself explains the indigeniuos plan by former SAP executive Shai Agassi.
It all started with whitepaper written by Shai Agassi on his vision of make Israel Oil free.
Shai Agassi was well known as the backbone by SAP.
He had recently left SAP as he was denied the post of CEO and rumours says that its was because he is a Jew and SAP is a German company he was not made the CEO.
His company http://www.betterplace.com/ is working on establishing the charging infrastructure.
Shai Agassi is just 36 years of age and he already has a wiki page on his name http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shai_Agassi
The whole idea is by making a country oil free, countries like Israel will take away their dependency from the oil producing countries and obviously no doubt about the clean environment they would create.
When would we see such a thing happening in India?
Electric and hybrid cars are already available in Indian markets. They even cost the same, but the problem lies in the basic charging infrastructure. If I have to own an electric car I would need a charge point at home and maybe at office.
So people who among you is ready to take up the initiative of making india oil free.
On second thought why don't the big shots of our country like the Ambani's, the Birla's, the Tata's pick up the challenge.
They could start of with small town and get the infrastructure ready before it booms out of proportion.
I think its time for the government to think in this terms rather than just bring up SEZ's, Malls, housing, bridges and more bridges and watch the city burst out.
I work in JB Nagar Andheri Kurla road and I must say that the first road that leads out of Mumbai International Airport has become a nightmare after the start of the Metro Project. I just pray that the Metro project does not get stuck in some sort of controversy and they halt work, as most of the project in India does.
Any comments?
